James Mathieu, Esq. has a varied background in many areas of the practice of law having owned a general practice law firm for over 20 years. Additionally he has served as a municipal attorney and a brief stint as a city manager. James has served as Athenian Academy's Governing Board President for the last 5 years.

Mike Pissourios
Board Vice President
Mile Pissourio graduated from Massachusetts College in Pharmacy in Boston and has been working in retail and hospital pharmacy in the Tampa bay area for the last 25 years. He has 2 children and enjoys serving on the Athenian Academy Governing Board, which he has been a member of for the last 5 years.
Barbara Rutherford
Board Secretary, Treasurer, & Liaison
Barbara has worked at Mease Countryside Hospital for 10 years on a medical, surgical, telemetry floor. She has an Associate degree in early childhood education and taught preschool for 10 years. Barbara has 2 children who attend Athenian Academy. She enjoys spending time with her family and her many animals.
Chris Ferekides
Board Member
Chris Ferekides has been a professor at the University of South Florida since earning his PhD in the Electrical Engineering in 1992. Besides teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, he is very active in research. He has supervised more than 50 students at the Masters and PhD levels, and his group is responsible for over $10 million in research funding. He is also actively involved in the organizing of national and international conferences, and he is the current chairperson of the Electrical Engineering department's curriculum committee.
Michelle Zervas
Board Member
Michelle currently works for the Pasco County School District. Previously, she worked in personal and business banking for over ten years. Michelle and her family reside in Pasco county and enjoy all that Florida has to offer.


The Athenian Academy of Technology and the Arts Charter School is committed to resolving parent and public concerns to the best of the school’s ability. To that end, the school has the following problem resolution/notification policy:

You should contact the school Principal, Evan Markowitz. If you have further concerns, you may contact the school’s Administrator, Daniel Rishavy. Additionally, if you have further concerns, you may contact the Governing Board’s selected parent liaison, Barbara Rutherford.

Also, any person may address the Governing Board for up to three minutes at the beginning of Governing Board meetings.
