Athenian Academy serves grades K – 8, with an emphasis on cooperative learning. Our school is a place for children to build a love for learning. Students at Athenian Academy of Technology and the Arts receive a rigorous education, in a positive and safe learning environment. Our dedicated team is committed to ensuring that we work together to help our kiddos reach their goals. Students are accepted by application. Our program focuses on…
• Performing Arts
• School Uniforms
• Hands-On Science
• Parent Involvement
• Character Education
• Cooperative Learning
• Reteaching and Enrichment
• Rigorous Educational Program
Our curriculum is enriched and aligned to the Florida State Standards. We utilize the Journeys series in literacy (reading, writing and language arts), Go! Math for mathematics instruction, Inspire Science for grades K – 5th, and Science Fusion for 6th – 8th grade. In addition, technology integration plays a huge role in classroom instruction as we prepare our students with the skills they need for the future. Our character education program assists students in becoming caring, responsible individuals and creating a culture of support for improving student success.
Athenian Academy utilizes Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures, which encourage every student to be actively engaged in the learning process. Through the use of Kagan structures, students are taught how to learn cooperatively with their peers, while simultaneously required to have individual accountability for their own learning. As a direct result of infusing Kagan Cooperative Learning into our students’ daily learning experiences, their social skills and character virtues improve, thus decreasing discipline issues school-wide. With behavior distractions kept to a minimum, our teachers are able to focus more time on instruction and learning, which positively impacts our students yearly academic achievement. All teachers at Athenian Academy are required to receive extensive and on-going Kagan Cooperative Learning training throughout their years of teaching at our school.
